In Matt's own words -

Matt Higgins worked as an historian in various national cultural institutions in Canberra for many years before moving to the Bega area in 2018.  Like many of us, he was in school musicals and was a member of his primary school choir way back in 1967.  In 1995 he won via competition the high honour of reciting a colonial poem at the Tharwa Bridge Centenary celebration, and from there stardom beckoned.  Matt has come to love the Tathra Hotel Sunday music sessions, and greatly admires and respects the depth of musical talent on the NSW far south coast. In  2021 he summoned up the courage to perform solo vocals at two of the pub’s Open Mic nights.

Matt learnt of the PBGB through two means.  Firstly, meeting guitarist Sam Crowden in Sam’s guise as a barman at the Tathra pub, and listening to beautiful guitar duets by Sam and his dad Dave Crowden on the PBGB website.  Then Matt, a Talking Heads devotee, recognised a photo on the PBGB site as actually the CBGB music club in New York where Talking Heads and many other famous bands got their start in the 1970s.  At that point Matt made contact with Pete who invited Matt to come down to The Shed and ‘have a go’.  Since then Matt, with the help of the PBGB Shedders, has recorded his first song, Parbery Nail. You can listen to Matt's song by looking it up in The PBGB Vault.

Matt has also made a video about PBGB and The Shed. we called it "2021 Snapshot of the PBGB Shed" - link above.
